Global presence of tejas :

 November 2021, tejas has ruled in the skies of Dubai, with its breathtaking performance and manoeuvres. Even Pakistan Air Force team could not resist from having a glimpse of the small beast, proving its mettle and acrobatic performance to the entire world in Dubai airshow three LCA Tejas MK1 fighter jet of FOC version is participating in Singapore Air Show 2022 from 15th to 18th of February, India has started participating in these air shows with an aim to tap into the Light Combat Aircraft and trainer aircraft market. So far, three countries have shown interest in HAL Tejas , which are Malaysia, Argentina and Egypt.


Malaysia - in search of flit LCA :

The Malaysian Defence Ministry had published a request for bid for the supply and delivery of  light combat aircraft, also known as fighter leave in trainer light combat aircraft fleet LCA the RFI was issued on 22nd June 2021, the same month when China's military aircrafts reported coming close to Malaysian exclusive economic zone. Now as per Malaysian Air Force capillarity 55 Future Force structure programme ROYal Malaysian Air Force wants three flit LCS squadron by 2055 the new procurement initiative would fill the requirement for the first of these 3 squadrons.


What are the contenders :

Previously, Malaysian Air Force has invited proposals from various competitors including FA50 light attack aircraft developed by Korean aerospace industries and M346FA attack aircraft developed by Leonardo optically. Russia has 2 offers which are Yuk 130 combat aircraft and MiG 35. Now as per the latest update, Turkish airspace industry has offered, it's yet to be built, who's yet in addition, as per some new supporters, JF 17 of China is out of the bid. So out of these 6 competitors only tejas MK1A ,Mig 35 and Turkish hurjet have agreed to comply with Malaysian government mandated requirement to source or procure at least 30% of products and services from domestic companies in Malaysia.

Turkey's hurjet vs india tejas LCA :

the PAI hurjet is an advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft. It is a single engine tandem seat aircraft with modern avionics. It aims to fulfil International and Turkish Airforce requirements by replacing ageing T38. As advanced jet trainers and f5 as a probiotic team aircrafts with a modern high performance multi role aircraft.

Hurjet vs tejas- dimensions :

To begin with, let's compare the dimension of both the fighter jets. The hurjet has a length of 13.6m  wingspan of 9.5 metres and height of 5.1 metre and wing area of 35 metre square the LCA tejas has a length of 13.2 metres wingspan of 8.2 metres height of 4.4 metre and wing area of 38.4 metre square from the comparison of dimension, there are two important points that we can derive. First, the tejas has a compact size when compared to hurjet terms of wingspan length, and height, which means tejas has overall smaller dark cross section than widget second, the wing area of tejas is more than that of hurjet which allows it to have more payload lift capability.


Engine :

Now we will look into the engine which is another important aspect of your fighter jets performance. Both of these fighter will be powered by  American GE404. But there is a small difference. The hurjet will be using one F404GE102 afterburning turbofan engine, which can generate maximum thrust of 79 kilo Newtons with afterburner. At the same time, the LCA tejas is powered by an operated variant of G404, called f404 Iron 20, which is the highest cursed variant in f404 family and produces a maximum thirst of 84 kn with afterburner with more powerful engine LCA tejas can deliver better performance than hurjet .


Performance :

The hurjet is set to have a maximum speed of Mach 1.4 range of 2222 km and service ceiling of 45,000 km. Talking about LCA tejas , it has a maximum speed of Mach 1.6, a ferry range of 3200 kilometres with two external drop tanks and service ceiling or 52,500 feet clearly, on all these parameters, tejas is much better than the hurjet. If you talk about G limit here as well tejas with G limit of +9 and -3.5g is the head of hurjet having children of +8 and -3g. The hurjet will have maximum power capacity of 2721 kg, whereas LCA tejas has almost double is 5300 kg of payload capacity.


Future planned enhancements :

The capabilities startup plan to be included in hurjet are eight were refuelling fly by wire with parameter limiting built in auxiliary power unit, night vision goggle compatible cockpit heads up display and an integrated helmet display system. These capabilities are already proven integrated and operational with LCA Tejas fighter.

Conclusion :

We have compared both aircrafts based on the performance statistics revealed by hurjet much of the information is still not available. LCA tejas took its first flight in the year 2003, and hurjet is yet to take its first flight and expected somewhere in 2023. Look at the time gap of development of these 2  fighter jets. It's almost 2 decades still tejas is much better platform than the hurjet on all parameters and is continuously being upgraded. If you talk about trainer variant lift, it has further advanced cockpit and avionics. It is not just an advanced trainer, but a full grown fighter with arrays of modern sensors, avionics and versatile weapons. No other trainer or light combat aircraft can match the capability of tejas , be it the latest and most advanced hurjet under development.
